Hi! My name is Maribeth Collins Brady. I am a pediatric audiologist, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a lover of makeup, skincare, food and travel, and constant learner of all things health and wellness.
I created my “time unoccupied” account in 2021 right after graduating from clinic doctorate program. Into my mid twenties, I was a full time student, worked part-time, and somehow found time to make a few friends, meet Stephen (my now husband) and later plan a wedding (that was cancelled, thanks COVID!), get married and move across the country three times. Life kind of passed me by with direct goals I was trying to reach with not much time for anything else. Majority of my time and mental energy was consumed with school and the rest of my energy was put into building a strong foundation for my relationship and marriage. By the time I was graduated and married, I questioned who the heck I was.
Stephen is my biggest supporter and encouraged me to take a break after graduation and I am so grateful that he was able to support us financially in that time. We were living in Seattle for my clinical externship and decided to pack up and move to Florida for the summer. I grew up in Florida and am a beach girl through and through. We rented a sweet little beach house and time unoccupied was created.
Creating social media pages to share things was kind of left field for me. I am the opposite of an over sharer. I hate talking about myself and avoid it at all costs. But I do love to talk about subjects I’m passionate about or things I’ve learned that have proven useful.
I feel like I’ve accomplished what I originally set out to do – figure out who the heck I am outside school and my relationship. I found my love of makeup. I did not know anything and cringe at old photos wishing I could have known all of these tips earlier!! This love of makeup partly stemmed from my awful skin issues I had from wearing masks at work. I powered through because I recognized how important they were to protect myself and others but the acne that was an unfortunate result. Putting on makeup helped boost my self-confidence and feel more like myself when my self esteem was at an all time low. Things I’ve also found passion in that I have not shared as much is my love of food and health/wellness. As a women, I’ve struggled with hormone-related issues and IBS so I am constantly searching for ways to feel better.
After the summer in Florida, we moved back to our home base in Austin, TX and I started my first job. Working in healthcare can be really draining for many reasons and I have felt the ebbs and flows. And my consistencies, or lack thereof, in posting have been a result. I really have found joy in sharing tips and favorite products, finding commonalities with others, and building a tiny community. I plan to be more consistent and continue to challenge myself and grow.
And that’s why I created time unoccupied 🙂
